The OB/GYN Prenatal Class is held every 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in Letterman Auditorium. While anyone can attend these classes at any time during pregnancy, we suggest the classes would be most helpful for pregnant women greater than 20 weeks.

Topics include:

Stages of labor, discomforts of labor, birth stories, methods for medical management to include induction, assisted deliveries using vacuum or forceps, discussion for cesarean section, postpartum care as well as care of the newborn.

Breastfeeding Classes:

Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes are available on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Class times for the 2nd Thursday of each month is from 6 – 8 p.m. and on the 4th Thursday of each month from 1 – 3 p.m. These two-hour classes cover information that every mother/couple should know who plans to breastfeed. This class will introduce the benefits of breastfeeding, how breast milk is made, what to expect the first few weeks and beyond, how to know that your baby is getting enough milk, helpful techniques on positioning and latching baby, prevention and treatment of common problems, when and how to ask for assistance with breastfeeding, going back to work, and the pumping, collecting, and storing of breast milk. This class will also discuss physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes the mother may experience during the postpartum period. Classes really do make a difference and meet in the Sakakini Conference Room on the third floor of the Hospital Tower, across from the Birthing Center.
