Madigan Army Medical Center is located between Jackson Avenue on the north and Gardner Loop on the south on JBLM Lewis Main. Access to the main Madigan campus can be from either road.

Opened on February 28, 1992, Madigan Army Medical Center is a 1.2 million square foot complex that was the newest and most modern military treatment facility in the Department of Defense and boasted state-of-the-art technology in clinical and administrative areas. To this day, Madigan remains a leader as a top-of-the-line medical center for Army Medicine.

The facility comprises of four independent, yet interconnected buildings. First is the Hospital Tower, which is considered an eight story building but in reality is a 15-story building with mechanical floors between each inpatient unit. The second is the three-story outpatient Medical Mall complete with escalators and a magnificent skylight that opens and retracts to allow the maximum amount of natural light. Third is the Ancillary building that is home to the operating rooms, delivery rooms, emergency and radiology departments and the laboratory. Fourth is the Logistics building. All four buildings were designed to maximize efficiency and safety for patients and staff.

The natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest was considered in the design of the facility with the panoramic views of the Cascades Mountains and Mount Rainier to the east and the Olympics to the West from the windows of the Hospital Tower and Medical Mall for staff and patient viewing. Even the flowing water and ponds, a place of peace and serenity for both patients and staff, is part of the cooling system for the hospital.

Madigan Army Medical Center is a tertiary care center providing a wide array of medical services, such as general medical and surgical care, patient-centered adult and pediatric primary care, a 24-hour emergency room, specialty clinics, behavioral health and wellness services.
